How does a text can be related with semiotic?
Text is a message which has been recorded in some way, it can be in the form of writing, audio or even video recording.
What made us think of a picture of a tree since the text of tree does not showing any form of a tree? Text is like a code, or even a medium. It can be used to map out relationship between media and social phenomena.
What about Media? How does it related with semiotic study?
Media can be said as a medium or even a communication channels. For examples of communication tools, they are television, newspaper, radio, printed media and so on. Through these medium, we can get to know different information and entertainment as well. Take an example of a movie showing a guy wearing a silver color suit, fashionable and futuristic designed, and driving some kind of irregular car design or even UFO, you will automatically receive the sense that movie is about science fiction.
What we have learned and think have been influence by our social phenomena and even our own culture background. Things that we have been experienced will remain in our memory, when we look back on it, we will automatically think back of it. The memory is like a code or sign that made us understand or define what the things that we are now looking or dealing with.
So, we are going to discuss and share our own opinion regarding to the media and text we see in our daily life.

1. What will you think of when you see a building with a number 4 painted on the wall? Does it representing any meaningful or useful information?

Text is a sign or even a code that contains meanings. Different text form up into a word will bring it's own meaning.

My opinion for the above questions:
I would think of that might be the block name for the building. If it is the block name, it will be easy for people to recognize which block it is.

Secondly,media has play an important role by transfer all these message to us. And so we can fully understand the message that had sent to us because of the text or code which we have learn.
ReplyDeleteBased on the question above, a number 4 has painted on the wall can show which number of block is to avoid causing confuse or trouble to the resident that live around that area. From that i can conclude that it does contain useful message to make people life more easier.
Text is kind of message that bring out it own meanings. It contains different kind of meaning that brings out from text.

Media is medium or communication channel that send message for the people. We can slightly understand the message through that.

Based on the question above, a number 4 has painted on the wall? Does it representing any meaningful or useful information? Yes it did represented the useful information. For example, it might be the separation buildings from other. It can let people differentiate the buildings by painted the number 4.
Text itself does not bring any meaning. For me, text is just a pointer or code to show an object. To recognize an object that is referring to, firstly a code or a word must be assign to it. As our environment has mold us into what we are today, we can understand easily just by looking at the words that is showed.
ReplyDeleteMedia nowadays has a big influence to the new generation as we were being introduced to the sign in our early age. Therefore, the knowledge that we have gain is much bigger than the older generation.
As for the question, in my opinion, building that has been painted a number 4 on its wall straightly we can know that it is the 4th building and that separate the other building and make it stand out from other for more easy recognizable purpose.

ReplyDeleteA text is a place where there involving communication between receiver and sender. For example,I text a message ' I will be late' to Steven. What Steven understand is, I will be late to meet him. But for other persons, maybe it bring another meanings. That why text is just a object but itself don't mean anything.

It become important in our life nowadays because the way to communicate not only 1 to 1 but a large number of people. Besides that, it helps us a lot because we can know what happening around us easily by watching television or maybe newspapers.
Answer :
It can be the building number or maybe just a design of the building. This is what I trying to say here, text is just a object but meaningless. But it took us forward to something like the text of 4, first come to our mind text 4 is a NUMBER.
